Stories of Hope

Alabama

" I just want to say thank you for the box of knitted & crocheted hats.  Our patients have such a great time choosing one to wear out of the clinic.  My patients think it is just wonderful that the hats come from all over the states. I had one sweet little lady, pointing to the tag, she said, "this lady made this hat special for me?"  I said yes ma'am, she sure did.  It brought tears to her eyes.  If you have not witnessed a patient getting to choose a hat, it is a wonderful experience.  You have no idea how something so small, can bring such great joy to these patients.  If these hats could only cure their cancer, what a wonderful world it would be. Please tell all of your volunteers that I said thank you."  Christy Troxell, Center for Cancer Care, Alabama

I just wanted to check in to let you know how much our patients love choosing a winter hat.  Their faces just light up & their smiles are so heartwarming.  Something so small as a hat, brings them so much joy & happiness.  They can hardly believe that they were donated just for them.

As always it is an absolute JOY to open the boxes of hats you send!!  We just love the colors and different designs - what talented crafters you all are.  Our hat tree remains very active. With morning temps in the lower 20’s the need is even greater.

Thank you so much for thinking of us.

Feeling cool during chemo, I picked out one of your hats to be more comfortable. My hair loss was just getting to its peak and I hadn't switched to wigs yet.  It really made my day. I found I had a matching sweater and earrings and "dressed up" the next day. The kindness of strangers amazes me. I don't feel like there are any strangers any more when I see wonderful people like you caring for others and helping them through the unpleasant moments to feel the hugs."  Bonnie

"As a child is facing treatment, visiting the clinic, or admitted into the hospital, it is our desire to find ways to make them as comfortable as possible.  As each member of our team works to support that patient and his/her family, it is our hope to be able to offer thoughtful expressions such as a special hat especially for them.  Unique hats are such a wonderful way to show the patients how much they are thought of and cared for by others.  Thank you for your ongoing endeavor to create these wonderful knit caps.  To see the smile they can bring to a patient's face greatly impacts the families, as well as the staff here at the hospital."

"I cannot thank your organization enough for providing hats to Aurora Cancer in Kenosha. My mother was diagnosed with cancer and your donated hats have been so wonderful-for both day and night. The soft one she has to sleep in has been so nice for her. The daytime hat is adorable!
Thank you!" Lori

"Thank you so much for donating the lovely box of hats to the American Cancer Society.  Your package arrived yesterday, and several of the hats have already been selected by cancer patients at Columbia St Mary's Hospital.  Your thoughtfulness will surely help them feel better about their appearance during treatment, especially during the Wisconsin winter.  I really appreciate your help in fulfilling ACS's mission to help patients 'stay well, get well, find cures, and fight back.' "Hospital days are often long and may at times be somewhat scary.  The Child Life staff helps infants, young children, teens and entire families by providing activities to assist in coping with a health care experience.  Your gift was used to help us brighten the day for children and families."  Children's Hospital of Wisconsin
