Soothe For Spring Idea - Vonne's Crochet Design

Throughout our Soothe for Spring Campaign, we'll share hat ideas from our staff and our volunteers. We're excited to share this lovely crocheted design from designer, Yvonne Tate, of Vonne's Crochet.  Yvonne is a member of the New York City Crochet Guild, winners of last summer's Chapter Challenge during the Knit and Crochet Show, sponsored by the Crochet Guild of America (CGOA) and The Knitting Guild Association (TKGA).  Her "Chemo Cap Challenge 2011" hat was introduced to help her fellow crocheters meet the challenge.  Here's a few words from the designer:

I’m Yvonne (of Vonne’s Crochet & Beading)

If I recall correctly, I heard of your organization through Ravelry. My approach to crochet design is often working backwards (which I don’t necessarily consider the same as reverse engineering); I’ll think of the way I want something to look, then figure it out; most times that works. I also try to think outside the box, and strive to do something different; not necessarily what’s been done the way it’s always been done; that keeps it interesting for me. For the hats, what I had in mind was something that would work in a variety of fibers and weights, while using basic stitches so as not to be overcomplicated, which could be easily repeated and even customized to a degree for a touch of individuality.

It was a pleasure to offer my crochet design for your cause.

Recently, one of our Illinois-based crochet volunteers, Laura Krzak, made up Yvonne's design, using Kollage's Milky Whey, a 50% Milk, 50% Soy based yarn.  We have to admit, this is one of the softest hats we have seen, with such a nice drape and fit, and we thank Laura for her contribution.

Yvonne's pattern is Chemo Cap Challenge 2011 and is available for free here on Ravelry or on her website.  There are actually two patterns available with the download - one is a shell stitch pattern, the other in a v-stitch.
