In Memory of My Mother
From time to time, a box of hats comes in with a story that touches our hearts. One such box came in shortly before we were scheduled to upgrade our website. We asked the sender if we could share this story with all of you, and she kindly agreed. We are honored now to present this story..
In memory of Sue
March 10, 1941 - December 22, 2009
I am donating these caps in memory of my mother, Suzanne. Sadly, she passed away after a courageous 10 month battle with lung cancer at the age of 68.
She worked hard and was very dedicated to her career, retiring in 2007 after 37 years in real estate. Her greatest passion was her children, Robert, Laura, Katherine and Jeanne; grandchildren, Stephanie, Brianna, Megan, Andrew, Zachary, Taylor and Haley, and her sister, Kay. She wasn't only a mother and grandmother, but she was also my best friend. She was very affectionate and loving. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and devoted much of her time to helping care for them. She loved to spoil the kids endlessly with gifts and treats. There is a huge void in our hearts without Mom and dear 'Grandma Sue."
I wanted to briefly explain to you what the caps meant to my mother. My mother, as with most women, wanted to always look her best. The chemotherapy took a toll and she lost much of her hair. When I took her to the hospital for treatments, I would see a rare spark of excitement in her eyes when she could pick out a new, stylish cap to add to her collection. I hold dearly in my memory those brief moments where I saw her smile. Unfortunately, she didn't get to wear most the caps. When I found them after her passing, I knew she would want to give these back to others who are fighting cancer. Thanks so much to all the generous people who make the caps, you really do make a difference!
"In life I loved you dearly, in death I love you still.
In my heard you hold a place, no one could ever fill."
