In Memory of...

As our President and Founder expressed last Thanksgiving, the traditions of passing the passion and craft of crocheting, knitting and other fiber arts from one generation to the next is always delightful for us to hear.

We received this note in a recent box of donated hats

"Please accept these hats...in the memories of both my grandmothers.  As a young girl, both of these lovely ladies patiently taught me the basics of crochet.  They were both abundantly talented and love to share what they created.  I was blessed to have them in my life for many years before cancer entered their lives.  May these hats give comfort to their new owners.  May they feel the love and prayers that went into each stitch."

Halos of Hope could not continue our mission without the abundance of talent shared by each and every one of our volunteers.  Notes, like the one above,  tucked into donations also remind us how everyone's life is touched by cancer, in some way or another.  And we know from the stories we receive from individuals and centers, how much comfort a gentle cap brings to someone stressed by cancer treatment.

So who in your family has passed the tradition of fiber arts to you or someone you know?  Or did it skip your generation, and now your child, niece, nephew, godchild has picked up a needle or hook?  Let us know through your comments below, or post to our Facebook or Ravelry pages.  We'd love to hear your story.
